What is Nyimas Bantaba?

Bantaba

Nyimas Bantaba is a multilingual (German-English) talk show produced live once a month on ALEX Berlin (TV) ‘s open channel in Berlin, Germany. The idea behind the show is to create a space for discussions on various topics. Discussions are held with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, but with a focus on migration, women’s empowerment, and culture. Bantaba is an open platform, especially for refugees and migrants, that creates a space for them to be heard. It is a safe place where people can express their problems without fear and be given a place in society.

The program is produced by a team of volunteers who are passionate about creating a space for dialogue and exchange. When selecting topics, we place a strong focus on migration, cultural diversity, and women’s empowerment.

What does “Bantaba” mean?

Bantaba is a local dilate in the mandinka tribe of West Africa, mainly spoken in The Gambia, its a meeting point where diverse communities meet to discuss, inform the society, empower each other and fight oppressions and systematic justice for the marginalized communities, the name emerged from a big tree, resembling the African giant baobab tree, under this tree, not only the stated topics are discussed, but it’s a safe space where solace is found for the saud community – in short, Bantaba means coming together for a new and long lasting good course.

Academie

Bantaba Academy is born from the same spirit of creating spaces where marginalized voices are not only heard but amplified. This project is a journey for migrants and refugees in Berlin to step into the role of storytellers, fostering inclusion and diversity, and shaping narratives that are often missing from German media.

The project’s approach is simple yet powerful: empower through access. Participants gain not only technical media skills but also the confidence to claim space in public discourse. Topics such as racism, discrimination, and the lack of diverse representation in German media are openly addressed. Through Workshops and productions, underrepresented perspectives enter the mainstream, raising awareness across Berlin.
