About

Nyima Jadama

From The Gambia in West Africa to Germany, Nyima Jadama’s journey is one of courage, resilience, and purpose. Trained in law and journalism, she began her career as a reporter in The Gambia before moving to Germany in 2015. Instead of letting displacement silence her, she transformed it into a powerful platform—using media to amplify voices that are too often unheard.
As a journalist, public speaker, media trainer, and storyteller, Nyima has worked across radio, television, and digital platforms. From producing refugee-focused programs on Radio Dreyeckland in Freiburg to completing her professional journalism training (BJS) at the Berlin School of Journalism, she has consistently built bridges across cultures, communities, and generations.
As an expert advisor on the topic of migration. In both fields, her voice was noted early on: Selected as one of the top students of Kiron University Online, she found herself on a public panel with Germany’s former Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2017, to discuss displacement and higher education for refugee women.

Alex Berlin TV

Today, Nyima hosts her own TV programme for migrants and refugees on Alex Berlin Offener Kanal ( Alex Berlin TV / Radio) in Berlin. And she loves to turn the public image of refugees as “takers” in society upside down: “We are all part of society. Everyone has something to give”, she says. In 2021, she was nominated by the German Foreign Office and Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table (Rseat) as the first refugee delegate to advise the German government at the High-Level Officials Meeting (HLOM), now GRF-Progress Review of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Nyima’s Bantaba

2020

In 2020, she founded “Nyima’s Bantaba”, a bilingual talk show inspired by her roots and driven by her vision. Broadcasting in German and English, the show connects migrants and diaspora communities worldwide, tackling vital topics such as migration, women’s empowerment, identity, and culture. Through heartfelt conversations and fearless storytelling, Nyima creates a space where lived experiences become sources of strength and change. Under a wide, welcoming tree in The Gambia, stories were once shared, problems were debated, and communities were built through conversation. That spirit of open dialogue—known as Bantaba—still lives today in the voice of Nyima Jadama. And again she says: “Every person stands for something.”
